God raised up wise men to establish and defend the Constitution of the United States, which enabled the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ to come to pass. We honor their sacrifice and seek to maintain moral principles of liberty and faith in our lives. Read the inspired wisdom of those who championed the freedoms we enjoy.

-Issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863—freeing slaves
