Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscopes, like people, are constantly changing. As we write, our perspectives shift; our worldviews expand. With one half-inch turn of the kaleidoscope—or the decision to write about an unfamiliar topic—our minds stretch to incorporate more ideas. This lets the world teach us of more possibility and opportunity. And like a kaleidoscope, good writing, truly intriguing writing, draws us in. Writing like this should be hypnotizing. It invites the readers into another world of color, mystery, and surprise.
Each semester, the tutors at the BYU-I Writing Center create short stories, poems, and essays that are published in a new edition of Kaleidoscope. Our anthology is a product of fleeting beauty, constantly changing pieces of life. Like kaleidoscopes, we are all individual pieces of glass, parts of a whole, that come together to make beautiful creations. We invite you to pick up that kaleidoscope, peer inside, and see the world anew.
