On Saturday, July 3, The Rock Gym- Rexburg will host an early Independence Day celebration.
The new rock gym will have rock climbing, s’mores, giveaways and a small fireworks show. The event is free for anyone who wants to attend.
Kira Martin, the owner of the business, said she and others are excited to have the event, especially after some unfortunate timing with COVID-19.
The gym opened in February and then had to close the next month as part of Idaho Governor Brad Little’s stay-at-home order.
“It was really bad timing…but that’s okay,” Martin said. “We’re just holding on until September when, hopefully, some students come back.”
The gym offers climbing walls for the most avid climbers, to beginners and everyone in between.
Those who attend the event are asked to wash their hands before and after climbing any of the walls.
Martin said that COVID-19 shouldn’t be too much of a concern since most of the festivities will take place outside.
The event itself lasts from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on July 3.

“You have nothing to lose; it’s a fun sport,” Martin said. “Come on out…there’s free s’mores! Everybody loves s’mores.”
