BYU-Idaho Radio · Jed Platt talks about art events coming up in Rexburg

Finding something to do in Rexburg has never been easier. Rexburg Cultural Arts and its Director Jed Platt work to create opportunities for residents to experience art without leaving town.

One upcoming event is a mug swap at the Romance Theater. Those who bring a mug will get a free cup of hot chocolate. A photographer will also take portraits (mug shots) for $5. The event takes place on a memorable date.

"If you look at the date it's 2/22/22 and it's on a Tuesday,” Platt said. “So of course, we had to celebrate that."

Another upcoming event on March 19 is part of the Romance Theater’s extended play cinema series. Attendees will not only watch “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” but will experience the movie too, complete with a Windex sharpshooting contest and bridesmaid dress competition.

“When you come to that event you’ll actually be coming to a wedding with beautiful fresh flowers,” Platt said. “Of course, we’ll serve Bundt cake right… We encourage people to dress up for a wedding that night.”

Rexburg is also home to musical performances. On March 3 at 7:30 p.m., the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra will perform a free concert with the theme, “Shall We Dance.”

“There is a lot to explore, and we look forward to sharing it with the community,” Platt said.
