A group of women in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area is spreading kindness during the COVID-19 pandemic with doorstep gift baskets.
“Porch Pixies” is a group of women who put together gift baskets or bags and leave them on people’s doorsteps as random acts of kindness.
“We describe it as an adult game of ding-dong ditch,” Jackie McGonigal said. “It’s magical, fun …inspiring, and it’s something fun to do.”
One of the founding members, Kourtnie Cleveland, said she came up with the idea while she was having trouble sleeping one night. Now, the group has over 2,600 members on Facebook.
If you go to the Facebook page, the founders set it up so you understand a few things before trying to join. Those include:
- You must be a woman age 21 or older (some baskets contain alcohol).
- “No begging” (to make sure the spirit of giving, not receiving, is maintained).
- And, “No Drama” (to keep the mood of the conversation upbeat.
Porch Pixies is looking to start doing more things to include men as well, but they still do give baskets and other gifts to men currently.
If you are a woman over the age of 21, review the requirements and then join the group to join the conversation on Facebook.
“We created this page, and we didn’t know…how many people needed it,” McGonigal said. “Seeing strangers come together, and all the support they’ve done...it’s amazing.”
