The world can always use good news and Ryan Gifford and Johnny Harris are attempting to bring some with their musical abilities.

Gifford and Harris started a band, called The Good News, after an impromptu jam session.

"I was walking by his apartment with my guitar and he was jamming on the bass and he yelled out, 'Hey, let's jam,'" said Gifford, "So I walked in there and we started to jam."

Some fans of The Good News have compared the band's music, especially Gifford's voice, to Jack Johnson, and others say they have a Red Hot Chili Peppers sound. Either way, The Good News is a laid-back, two-piece band writing and playing music for the fun of it.

"We like to keep things simple," said Harris.

Both Gifford and Harris are students at BYU-Idaho and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They said their faith has had an influence on the music they write.

"My testimony has an influence on my songwriting," said Gifford. "It's mainly unintentionally. I don't try to force my testimony into songs but it comes out naturally because it's such a big part of who I am and what I am."

The Good News has one EP and is working on a full-length album. You can find their music on Spotify. Click below to hear the full podcast episode.
