One BYU-Idaho student who is working toward goals and aspirations that serve the community around them, is Kalli Wightman, an elementary education major who recently took a teaching position at The Yoga Loft in Rexburg.
Wightman recently got her license to teach yoga after attending a class and being inspired.
“I was really stressed so I went to the yoga class and it was so just like ‘bing’ idea where it was like ‘hey, look what you’re doing right now and see how much it calms you down and how much you love it. And wouldn’t you want to teach that to other people?’”
As an elementary education major, Wightman wants to take some of the skills and lessons she has learned from yoga and transition them into the classroom.
“I really love just working on the mental part of yoga,” Wightman said.
It’s more than fun for her. She said it’s important to teach children restorative yoga to have a healthy mind.
The Yoga Loft is in the Rock Gym in Rexburg. Wightman teaches an ashtanga yoga class on Wednesday evenings. The Yoga Loft offers a variety of classes and a variety of membership and drop-in options.
