BYU-Idaho is taking in more students every year. the school estimates that about 23,000 students live in Rexburg during the fall and winter semesters which nearly doubles the city population, which is a little over 28,000 people, giving Rexburg more than 50,000 people during those semesters.
With all this growth and influx of people comes a need to expand, and maintain facilities and roads, and BYU-Idaho has multiple construction projects going on right now. One project is in the Hyrum Manwaring Student Center across from the bookstore.
“The goal of the university is to get Academic Advising right in there so that there is an adjacency to the career folks and the advising folks," said Andy Johnson a member of Architecture and Construction Management Services at BYU-Idaho.
Johnson says the men's locker room in the John W. Hart Building is now open and they're finishing up the renovation of The Hart Gym. Other projects include new air conditioning for the Hinkley Building and new roofing in the summer.
