The ARTitorium in Idaho Falls offers several hands-on and screen-on creative activities. It has things like a green screen studio, a virtual gallery and art projects with a theme for each month. For December, kids and families can make Christmas ornaments and decorate cookies.
The building used to be the old Rio Theater on West Broadway in downtown Idaho Falls until it closed in 2001. It was later anonymously donated with the hope that it would become a fun place for children in downtown Idaho Falls. The ARTitorium on Broadway opened to the public on Aug. 15 and 16, 2014.
Georgina Goodlander is the visual arts director for the Idaho Falls Arts Council. She says the ARTitorium is a “drop-in experience for kids and families to come and have fun with art.”
As the year comes to a close, Goodlander reflected on which ARTitorium activities have been the best.
“We held a teddy bear clinic,” she said. “It’s designed to help kids feel more comfortable with the hospital experience.”
