BYU-Idaho Radio · Ammon Theatre Commemorates 9/11 Anniversary

As the United States remembers the terrorist attacks that happened on September 11, 2001, a local theatre company is taking to the stage to help us reflect. The Ammon Arts Community Theatre, or AACT, is performing “Hole in the Sky,” a dramatized view of what was happening in the North Tower before it collapsed.

The play is directed by Jorden Cammack, a teacher at Thunder Ridge High School and a high school freshman at the time of the attacks. Cammack says she’d been planning to direct “Hole in the Sky” since the AACT’s inception.

“To be honest, it was something that I said, ‘Guys, I’ve been planning on doing this for years and now that we have the community theatre with a community theatre and to be honest, I’m going to do it if you help me or not,’” Cammack said.

Cammack says the community has rallied around “Hole in the Sky” as many local companies have donated lumber to make the minimalistic sets, fog machines have been loaned to replicate smoke on the upper floors of the Tower, many members of the cast auditioned for the show because of their personal connections to 9/11 and various other items and replicas have been shared to be added into the memorial museum that audiences will walk through before they enter the auditorium.

“The focus is the people,” Cammack said.

Tickets are free to the public in an effort to allow as many people to attend as possible, however, it is recommended that individuals reserve their tickets ahead of time on the AACT’s Facebook page.

“Hole in the Sky” runs from September 9 to 11. All evening shows will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will be an afternoon matinee on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. More information is available on the AACT Facebook page at AACT-Ammon Arts Community Theatre.
