April – October 2019

June 2019 – April 2020

The Auxiliary Gym in the Hart is to be remodeled to make room for dance classes. Once completed, dance classes will be moved from the Manwaring Center, where they are currently held, to the Hart Building. This transition will make room for the Internship and Career Services Office to be moved where dance classes are currently held.

April 2020 – December 2020

After renovations are completed in the Hart Building to relocate the Dance Department, this space in the Manwaring Center will be used to centralize all student internship, career advising, and academic advising in the MC. This project will be phased into several projects so that it will have minimal impact on students during construction. This project will start during the Spring 2020 Semester but will not finish until the start of Winter 2021.

June – December 2019

A 1,000-ton chiller will be added to the Central Energy Plant. This addition will save the university over $100,000 in electrical costs each year. No faculty, employees, or students will be displaced during this improvement.

May – September 2019

University Village will continue replacing stairwells. Two stairwells were completed last year, and buildings 13, 14, 15, and 16 are planned to be completed this summer. Approximately three to four buildings’ stairwells will be replaced each summer until all have been replaced.

University Village will also be adding air-conditioning to all the married student apartments. This project will start in May.

Summer 2019 - Spring 2020

During the summer session, crews will start constructing a new community center for University Village. This will give the families of University Village a common space for gatherings. This project is planned to take six to eight months to complete.

April 2019 – September 2020

The Oscar A. Kirkham Building is not seismically stable, and bringing the building up to current building code standards is cost prohibitive. This project officially starts mid-April with recovery of AV equipment and other items that can be repurposed. The full demolition will take place during summer session, lasting through the beginning of September 2019. All current classes, aside from ceramics classes, will be dispersed to different buildings across campus at the start of the Spring 2019 Semester. Plans for what will go in place of the building is a new “Welcome to BYU-Idaho” sign, landscaping, and a new parking lot.

June 2019 – September 2020

Ceramics classes will be held in the Kirkham Building through July 2019 but will be separated from the rest of the building while it is cleared out for demolition. In July 2019, all ceramics classes will be moved to the Benson Building for three semesters to allow for the full demolition of the Kirkham. The relocation will also allow time for a new ceramics lab to be built as a standalone building in the same spot it is in today.
