"A BYU-Idaho Christmas,” one of Brigham Young University-Idaho’s biggest productions of the year and a beloved family and community tradition, returns on Saturday, December 7. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the BYU-Idaho Center, attendees will enjoy Christmas melodies performed by special guest artists Frederica von Stade and the Sonos Handbell Ensemble as well as BYU-Idaho performing arts students.
Von Stade is an award-winning vocalist, six-time Grammy nominee, and internationally acclaimed performer. From classical to modern, the artist’s repertoire includes musicals, pop, folk, jazz, and opera. Von Stade has performed with acclaimed organizations throughout the world and the United States including the Metropolitan Opera, the Paris Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony, and more. Deemed as “one of America’s finest artists and singers” by the New York Times, von Stade will share the spirit of Christmas in this December concert amongst the ringing bells of the Sonos Handbell Ensemble.
With a collective experience of over 100 years in handbell ringing, the Sonos Handbell Ensemble captivates audiences throughout the world with their ability to turn the sounds of single, independent bells into one fluid musical piece. The group has performed with operas and symphonies throughout the country, and their success has led many composers to write original orchestral works to include handbells.
The combination of vocals and handbells will fill the BYU-Idaho Center with Christmas melodies and the spirit of the season.
Tickets for the performance are $12 for the general public and $7 for BYU-Idaho students. To purchase tickets online, visit go.byui.edu/center-stage/christmasbyui. Tickets can also be purchased through the University Store Ticket Office or by calling 208-496-3170.
