REXBURG, Idaho-The Alcan Quartet from Quebec will perform Friday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg.
The Alcan Quartet has developed a reputation for excellence throughout Canada and internationally since its formation over 20 years ago. Critics agree that both on stage and in the recording studio, the quartet possesses the qualities that characterize the best ensembles of its kind: a recognizable personality, a homogeneous sound and elegant style.
The ensemble's list of accomplishments is impressive: close to 1,000 concerts, more than 100 live radio broadcasts and tours throughout the world. The quartet is based in Chicoutimi, Québec, where it receives support of the Orchestre Symphonique du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.
The quartet takes its name from its principal patron, the aluminum company Alcan.
They will perform the Haydn String Quartet, Op. 76, No. 2 "Fifths"; the Ginastera String Quartet, No. 1, Op. 20; and the Mendelssohn String Quartet, Op. 44, No. 1.
While at BYU-Idaho, they will conduct a four-day residency with university string students.
Tickets for the Center Stage concert are $12 for the general public and $6 for BYU-Idaho students. Tickets can be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling 496-3170 or online at tickets.byui.edu.
