REXBURG, Idaho - Brigham Young University-Idaho is inviting veterans and active-duty service men and women and their families to be special guests at this year's performance of Patriots and Pioneers, featuring the university band and choirs, along with special guest George Dyer from Branson, Mo.
The concert will be held in the BYU-Idaho Center on Saturday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. and feature both patriotic and spiritual music.
Artistic Director Rebecca Lord said the concert will "celebrate the pioneering spirit of our patriots and pioneers" through music and dance.
Lord, who directs the BYU-Idaho Men's and Women's Choirs, said, "We are celebrating the pioneering spirit that was manifest in our patriotic forefathers and pioneering ancestors and our call to carry it on today."
"It will be a mixture of patriotic classics, Broadway show tunes and pioneer anthems," Lord said. Songs will range from "Come, Come Ye Saints," to "Salute to the Armed Forces," to "America" from the musical West Side Story.
This will be Dyer's second performance in the annual concert, having been the featured guest artist in 2011.
In the fall of 2009, "The George Dyer Show" opened in Branson, Mo. In 2010 it was nominated for 11 Show Awards including "Best New Show" and he was awarded "Vocalist of the Year" and "Best Male Vocalist."
