Steven Hendricks is the director of the University Band and Jazz Lab Band. He also teaches courses in conducting and music education. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Utah State University and a Master of Music degree from Brigham Young University.
Prior to his appointment at BYU-Idaho, Mr. Hendricks taught band and music appreciation at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. His band program at Davis High achieved national recognition with performances at the Midwest Clinic, the Rose Parade, and the Macy’s Parade. He was an active member of the Utah Music Educators Association, where he served as the Marching Band Committee Chair and as Vice President-Band.
For his work as a high school music educator, Mr. Hendricks was recognized with the “Superior Accomplishment” award and the “Outstanding High School Music Educator” award from the Utah Music Educators Association, received eight citations of excellence for concert band, jazz band, and marching band from the National Band Association, and was selected as the Utah High School Activities Association’s “Music Educator of the Year.” He was the 2017 Davis School District Teacher of the Year and was first runner up for the Utah State Board of Education Teacher of the year. He is also a recipient of the Jon M. Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education.
As a choral musician, Mr. Hendricks helped found the Davis Master Chorale and served as the first director of that group. From 2001 to 2006 he served as a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
