The English as an International Language Center (EILC) is designed to help students who have English as a Second Language (ESL) adjust to their role as matriculated college students. The EILC program helps students improve and practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
How to sign up
Students can sign up for ENG 109, ENG 108, and ENG 107 appointments through the Tutoring page on I-Plan.
To avoid a trip to the center, use the following links to sign up for specific tutoring sessions. Please respond to all the questions on the form. It should take about 2 minutes or less to complete.
ENG 109 appointments
ENG 108 appointments
ENG 107 appointments
Note: You will register for ENG 109, 108, and 107 classes through the school’s registration page. Signing up for a tutor is required only after registering for these classes. You do not need to register for any class when signing up for a HELPer.
Courses for Spouses
The EILC also offers courses for spouses of BYU-I students called English Conversations.
Working as a Tutor
The EILC hires tutors every semester. We look for applicants willing to tutor ESL students in English. The work environment requires detail-oriented and goal-driven tutors who are willing to impact others. Tutors get the opportunity to work with students from different countries. Diversity is a big part of the EILC.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Native or near-native English fluency
- Must have completed FDENG 101/150 and received an A
- GPA of 3.0 or above
- OEFL score above 80 or ACT score above 20
- Must be available for at least three semesters
- Preference will be given to TESOL majors/minors
- Hours are flexible, but you need to commit to a minimum of 10 hours of availability per week.
Further instructions on how to apply are found on the job board. If the navigation link below does not work, then we are most likely not accepting applications at the moment.
