FAQ

When do I take the Praxis?

You should plan to take the praxis three to four semester before your planned student teaching date. This will allow you to choose a test day that works best with your schedule as well as allow for any retakes you may need.

What happens if I don't pass the praxis?

You will not be allowed to student teach without taking and passing the Praxis exams. Praxis exams can be taken multiple times.

Do I have to have a second Endorsement (emphasis or minor)? What are they?

Yes. The endorsement makes you more marketable and is required as part of state certification laws. If you are a 2017 or older catalog year, you may choose between math, science, social studies and language arts. Starting in 2019, students select a minor for their second endorsement. Go to the catalog for current minor options. The endorsement will certify you to teach in that specific subject area in K-9 grades.

What if I don't want to teach in Idaho?

Please contact the state you wish to be certified in and they will help you with the process of becoming certified in that state. Keep in mind that many states will recognize Idaho’s teaching certificate.
