Julie B. Shiffler, PhD, began her work at the Counseling Center in 1997.  She earned her Doctorate degree in Professional-Scientific Psychology, with an emphasis on Clinical Psychology, in 1997 from Utah State University.  Her dissertation is entitled, "The Relationship Between Guilt- and Shame-Proneness and Rorschach Indices of Psychological Functioning."  Her clinical experience includes working at the Counseling Center at BYU-Provo; the Counseling Center at Utah State University; the Behavioral Health Unit at Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, Utah; and the Community Clinic at Utah State University.  She also currently maintains a small private practice in Rexburg.

In her clinical practice, Dr Shiffler works with depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attention-deficit disorders, addictive and compulsive behaviors, identity issues, personality disorders, eating disorders, relationship issues, couples counseling, and group counseling.  Her professional interests have focused on the treatment of trauma and on Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy.  Dr. Shiffler is a member of the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists, the Idaho Psychological Association, and the Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Dr. Shiffler enjoys curling up with a good book (preferably historical fiction); taking care of her home; gardening; traveling to new places ("collecting" states and countries); and spending time with her husband, her eight children, and her ever-increasing number of grandchildren.
