Laundry Lead Worker
Example of Duties
Wash, dry, fold, sort and mend clothes and linen
Operate washing machines, dryers, extractors, ironers, steam cabinets, folders and sewing machines in an institutional laundry
Dispose of unusable items and report need for replacement
Clean laundry area and store and secure supplies and equipment
Monitor machines for proper operation and perform minor maintenance
Must be willing to supervise and work directly with juvenile offenders in a correctional facility
Monitor and regulate work flow and maintain records and prepare reports regarding section/operation
This position involves exposure to heat, humidity, and noise; exposure to heavily soiled or contaminated laundry; and handing of caustic and acidic products. Incumbents must be able to move loads weighing up to 100 pounds in carts or slings; lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stand for three hours at a time; detect problems with the operation of laundry equipment; and stoop, crawl, and crouch under equipment when performing maintenance. Some positions require driving a vehicle to pick up and deliver laundry.
Requirements / Qualifications
Good knowledge of: institutional laundry methods, equipment, and operations; reaction of common fabrics to detergents, washing agents, water temperatures, and drying heat; laundry chemicals and their use; basic measurements in inches, feet, yards, ounces and pounds.
Some knowledge of: methods of scheduling work in an institutional laundry; health and safety practices required in an institutional laundry.
Experience: identifying fabric colors and types; determining correct wash formula and machine cycle for various types and sizes of loads; operating and cleaning institutional laundry equipment; understanding maintenance and operation manuals.
Willing to work in a juvenile corrections facility
Must be able to meet federal PREA requirements
As soon as possible and background check is complete.

7:30-4:00 Day shift 5 days per week
Pay / Wage
$24,232.00 - $27,747.20 Annually

The IDJC is looking for an energetic and self-motivated person to join the IDJC team as a full-time Laundry Worker, Lead. This is an entry level position with responsibilities that include sorting and washing laundry, operating institutional laundry equipment, simple sewing and mending and may also train and supervise juvenile’s in laundry functions.
