Castle Rock (Denver area), Colorado
Elder Quillen grew up in Colorado Springs, CO, a place that will always be home, no matter where he lives. Currently he lives in Castle Rock, CO, about twenty miles from downtown Denver. He has been married for forty-two years to the lovely Bonita Blau Quillen, and they have six children and seventeen grandchildren. Four of those children and ten grandchildren live coast-to-coast (literally), so they spend much of their discretionary time and money traveling to see them.
Elder Quillen has served in many callings, including: bishop, bishop’s counselor, stake high councilor, stake executive secretary, stake young men president, stake mission president, seminary teacher, Elders Quorum President, and all of the YM’s callings with the Teachers and Priests. (Thankfully, working with Deacons was never asked nor required of him.) He is currently ward membership clerk, a Denver temple ordinance worker, and of course, a service missionary in the BYU-Idaho Internship Program.
Elder Quillen served a full-time mission in the California Arcadia Mission, and he and his wife recently returned from a year in China teaching English in a Chinese university through the BYU China Teachers Program. (He hopes someone reading this will ask him how they can do that!)
Elder Quillen has a BSBA in Business, and an MBA. The first half of his career was a bit of a smorgasbord of positions with AT&T: sales, corporate marketing, technical marketing, and corporate training. The last half of his career was in Human Resources (HR) where he found his niche and loved working in that world. He was a District Manager of HR at AT&T, Director of HR at a large Denver-based law firm, and finished his career as the Director of HR at the City of Aurora, CO.
Elder Quillen has written nineteen books, the last five of which are business related:
- Get a Job!
- The Perfect Resume
- The Perfect Interview
- Your First Job: The Recent Grad’s Indispensible Guide to Finding a Job
- Use Social Media to Find Your Dream Job!
His other books are travel related (travel guides to Ireland, Dublin and Scotland) and genealogy related (eight books on how to do genealogy).
He is excited for this opportunity to get to know and serve the students of BYU-Idaho, and is looking forward to meeting many of you!
