Wireless Network Standard
Purpose
In order to establish conformity and the highest level of reasonable service to the students, faculty and administration at BYU-Idaho, these standards have been developed and described in the following sections. By adhering to these standards we hope to ensure a richer educational experience for the attendees of this institution.
Scope
This document describes the services offered via wireless and the hardware required to access the system.
Standards
Hardware
- Wireless Cards/Client Adapters
The system is designed so that any WIFI certified 802.11b or 802.11g card should interface with this system. Dual mode 802.11a/g cards should work as well. The Linksys adapter sold in the bookstore has been tested to work with the system. Most cards will work with the system. If you are having trouble contact the Help Desk in the McKay room 306 or call them at extension 2361.
Security
- Access
Access to the wireless network is based off of your domain account. To get on you need to provide your username and password.
- Encryption
There is no encryption services provided from the wireless network. If you are dealing with sensitive data please make sure you are using a secure protocol such as Secure Socket's Layer (SSL) or Secure Shell (SSH).
