BYUI Wireless Windows XP Manual Setup

Minimum Requirements

Wireless Card:

An 802.11a/g wireless network card that supports WPA or WPA2 - 802.11b is not allowed because it degrades performance for all other users of the wireless network and doesn't provide sufficient bandwidth.

 

OS:

  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) with Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) enabled

Service Packs & Hot Fixes: (you don't need to restart until all 3 have been installed)

Click Here to download the HotFixes.   Once downloaded run setup.bat, then restart your computer.

Permissions:

  • Administrator privileges on the wireless device your are configuring

 

 

Windows Vista & XP Setup Instructions:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.
  2. Right click Wireless Connection or Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
  3. Select the Wireless Networks tab. Click Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.
  4. Select Windows to configure wireless
  5. Click the Add button and enter the following in the available fields:

    SSID: BYUI
    Authentication: WPA2
    Encryption: AES
    Note: If your network card does not support WPA2 or AES, you may choose to use WPA and TKIP. The following combinations are valid in order of preference:
    1. WPA2 with AES
    2. WPA2 with TKIP
    3. WPA with AES
    4. WPA with TKIP

  6. SSID:BYUI, Authentication:WPA2, Encryption:AES

  7. Click the Authentication tab.
  8.  Under EAP type, select Protected EAP (PEAP)

  9. Click the Properties button.
  10. Check Validate server certificate and check Equifax Secure Global eBusiness CA-1. Under Select Authentication Method, select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and check Enable Fast Reconnect.

  11. Click the Configure button.
  12. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password...

  13. Keep clicking OK until you are back at the Wireless Network Connections Properties.
  14. Back at the Wireless Network tab select the Advanced tab.
  15. Select Access point (infrastructure) networks only, then click Close.

  16. Restart the computer.

 

 

Connecting to the BYUI Wireless Network in Windows Vista & XP

 

After restarting the computer, you will see a Wireless Network Connection popup on the task bar when the wireless network is in range.

  1. Click anywhere on the popup except the X.

  2. Click the PopUp

     

  3. On the Enter Credentials window that appears, enter your NetID and Password and click OK. Leave the Logon domain blank.
