7:30 PM to 9:00 PM - Snow 136 Barrus Concert Hall: The BYU-Idaho Collegiate Singers have two upcoming performances (one here on campus and a free one on Temple Square in Salt Lake City). The Collegiate Singers will perform pieces that reflect moods from the sublime to the ridiculous, including music of the English Renaissance, Italian opera, American classics, 'Water Night' by American choral phenom, Eric Whitacre, and new pieces by two of Whitacre's up-and-coming competitors, Oja Gjeilo and Kevin Memley. The concerts will feature Brandon Bascom, of the Department of Music piano faculty, and a student string quartet. The Singers will also provide audience members with a sneak preview of songs from the upcoming 'Patriots and Pioneers' concert. 'This is a very new group whose sound is quite different compared to previous editions of Singers,' said Dr. Randall Kempton, director of the choir, 'but the spirit and power of the choir to help audiences laugh, cry, learn and love remains the same.' Collegiate Singers, directed by Dr. Kempton is a highly select auditioned choir consisting of students from majors all across campus. He was born in Logan, Utah, and did undergraduate work at Utah State University. He graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1959.He has been an assistant attorney general and a special assistant attorney general for the state of Utah. Elder Burton has also served as chief counsel for the Utah State Tax Commission. He was legal counsel for the Republic of Mexico in the intermountain area. He is admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to his calling as a General Authority in 1978, he was a managing partner in a Salt Lake City Law firm.Elder Howard has served as bishop, stake president, special representative of two presidents of the church, mission and temple president, president of multiple areas of the world, and a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy for 27 years.Author of several books, including Marion G. Romney, His LIfe and Faith and The Parable of the Silverware; he is married to the former, Caroline Heise, and they are the parents of five children.
