Fleet Services Vehicle Driver Training

BYU-Idaho policy states that operators of all University motorized vehicles and equipment are required to have both:

• a current state/international driver’s license
• a BYU-Idaho Driving Permit

In order to operate any vehicle, the driver must complete the online Defensive Driving Course and carry a valid university permit (application form). This form needs to be completed and signed by your supervisor or department head.

Different vehicles may require additional testing or training.

Trucks, Minivans, Sedans

1. Complete the Defensive Driving Course.
2. Complete the driver's permit application form.
3. Then bring your driver’s license and signed application form to Fleet Services.

12-Passenger Vans

1. Complete the Defensive Driving Course.
2. Complete the driver's permit application form.
3. Complete a 30 minute, behind-the-wheel test. Contact Fleet Services at (208) 496-2561.

Behind-the-wheel tests are given Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. At that time, please bring your driver’s license and signed driver's permit application form.

Gators/Carts

1. Complete the Defensive Driving Course.
2. Complete the driver's permit application form.
3. Complete a behind-the-wheel test. Request "training for gators" from the Risk Management Office (call 208-496-5604).
4. Bring your driver’s license and driver's permit application form to Fleet Services (FMS 145A).

If you are at-fault for a vehicle incident, you are required to complete an additional online driving course and watch a distracted driving video.
