Fire Prevention Plan

OSHA's Fire Prevention Plan regulation, found at 29 CFR 1910.38, 29 CFR 1926.24 and Subpart F requires a written plan that contains specific program elements. This plan addresses fire emergencies that could possibly occur on the campus of BYU-Idaho.

Open Flame Permit

Fill out and submit this permit for open flame activities on campus.

Workplace Fire Hazards

It is the intent of this university to assure that hazardous accumulations of combustible waste materials are controlled so that a fast developing fire, rapid spread of toxic smoke, or an explosion will not occur. Employees should contact the safety office (496-2414) for information concerning the hazardous properties of materials in their workplaces, and the degree of hazard each poses.

Emergency Action Plan

BYU-Idaho is committed to providing as safe, crime-free, and productive an environment as possible for university students, faculty, and staff. Employees should be prepared to cope with the hazards and disasters that threaten the day-to-day functions of the university. Fires, natural disasters, bomb threats, accidents, robberies, and assaults can and will occur.

Building Evacuation Procedures

A campus building should be evacuated whenever remaining in the building becomes life-threatening, when an alarm is sounded (based upon verification as per this policy), or upon the request of authorities.

Emergency Phone Operation

This site gives good instructions for the use of the emergency phones located under the blue lights across campus.

Fire Extinguisher Operation

The PASS system is probably the best way to remember how to use a portable fire extinguisher.

Potential Ignition Sources

Flammable or combustible materials will generally not ignite without an external source of ignition.

Building Coordinators

In the event of an emergency, there are people on each floor of the campus buildings that have received instructions on what to do. These people are called "Building Coordinators".
