FIELD EXPEDITION 2007

 

During Second Summer Block

This class offers students a learning experience unmatched by books and classrooms. The Expedition is a way to increase in knowledge and spirituality in the grandeur of nature. On Expedition, students can take all of their natural science GE credits and a religion course.

Courses:

Physical Condition

All students must be in good physical condition. Students must be able to travel (we log over 5,000 miles), camp (we camp every night, except when we're in town), and hike / backpack (our longest trip is ~10 miles in one day).

Standards

Students are expected to maintain BYU-Idaho standards and conduct.

Housing

Most weekends and some week days will be spent in Rexburg. Students must make arrangements for housing in the Rexburg area during those times.

Equipment

Students provide personal camping gear. (A detailed equipment list is provided when the student registers.) Expedition provides the rest, e.g., tents, cooking equipment, food.

Insurance

Each participant will be required to have family health and accident insurance or sign up for BYU-Idaho student insurance. Students are required to sign a liability waiver.

Cost

The cost is tuition plus a $950 field trip fee. The field trip fee covers travel, camping fees, food, books, and most other expenses while on the field trip.

Application

Information

Students from any of the three university tracks can participate. Expedition is limited to only 29 students. The course fills quickly, so submit your application soon.

 

To apply for Expedition you must fill out the form below and bring it or mail it to the Geology Department (Dr. Dan Moore, Geology Department, 150 Romney Building, Rexburg, ID, 83460-0510). After your application has been received, the Expedition fee ($950) will be charged to your student account and we will send you a registration packet, which provides further Expedition information and contains the forms you need to fill out to register for Expedition. ($150 of the Expedition fee is a non-refundable deposit.) The field trip fee must be paid before May 29th.
