About Our School
Wahlquist Jr. High School is a traditional junior high school, serving grades seven, eight and nine. Our school is one of the largest of nine junior high schools in Weber School District. We draw from both rural and suburban areas and enjoy the support of strong community partners. Our student body consists of mostly Caucasian students with a growing population of Hispanic and other ethnic groups. Most students (95%) live far enough from school that they ride a bus. Faculty members are heavily invested in the implementation of Utah State Core Standards (common core), and state of the art technology is utilized in the delivery of instruction. Many student organizations and activities are sponsored by the school. WJHS is known throughout the district for innovative student programs, academic achievement and great success on the athletic field.
Wahlquist was established over seventy years ago and many students come to us from families of parents and grandparents who attended this school before them. Our students exhibit great pride in belonging to an institution with a strong legacy and rich with tradition. Visitors to our school comment on the positive climate that exists here. Because of growth in the population and the challenges that come with occupying an older building, a new WJHS is currently under construction. Our new school is located within a few miles of our current site and is slated to open in the fall of 2014.
We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic teacher candidates who desire a positive, hands-on classroom experience that will enrich their college preparation and heighten their motivation to join the ranks of public education. We are looking for men and women who will become role models and examples for our students and those whose goals include a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people.
BYU-Idaho Student Teachers will be welcomed into a collaborative environment by a dedicated, caring and friendly staff at Wahlquist Jr. High School. You will be mentored by successful and knowledgeable teachers who will help you bridge the gap from the college classroom to the real world of teaching, and who will want to learn from your ideas as well. You will learn new strategies and best practices as you interact with students who have diverse needs and talents. You will learn that teaching goes far beyond the textbook as you build relationships with students who love you... and those who don't quite know they love you yet! You will have access to the latest technology in the classroom and will be included in our professional development training. You can expect a positive learning experience in our school which will hopefully, help launch your teaching career. We can't wait to work with you!
