"Brothers and sisters, this is the Spirit of Ricks.  This is BYU-Idaho.  This is who we are and what we do."

    - BYU-I President Kim Clark

Peer Instructor

A peer instructor is known as someone who helps to lead the learning process among a group of other peers. The peers in the equestrian program will be fellow students who have been hired (with out pay) to be these leaders. There will be one lead peer in each class and/or module with one peer in training. These peer's may teach from one class a semester to several. Peers will teach those classes in which they are qualified to teach, some may have specific talents that will allow them to teach specific modules.

Why are peers not paid?

President Clark has said: "The path of discipleship is not about you; it is about the Lord and his work; it is about service and love.”  We believe that the experience that one will have through participation in this program has the opportunity to allow one to lift others and themselves.

Elder David A. Bednar has said that one can find here; ... "a sense of purpose greater then self."  We are all on a journey in life, sometimes we tend to focus on ourselves to improve, but when we help others is when we find greatest growth in ourselves.  Elder Bednar has also said: "the “spirit of Ricks” is the Holy Ghost working through the concerned and caring people at [BYU-IDAHO].

It is keeping within this "spirit of Ricks", that is, a spirit of selfless sacrifice that we don't pay the peers.  This can become an opportunity of great growth.
