Work-hour Limitations

Federal law limits international students (in F-1 status) from working more than 20 hours per week while taking at least 12 credits. But it does allow these students to work full-time (up to 40 hours per week) during those periods when school is not in session or during the student's annual break, as long as they are enrolling full-time the next semester.

BYU-Idaho policy allows international students (with less than 12 credits) to work full-time, but only after departments have unsuccessfully given reasonable and timely effort in finding other qualified students. See FAQs for additional explanation.

Identification Documents

International students will be required to bring their I-20 and I-94 identification documents and a photo ID to the Human Resources (HR) office when they are hired. These documents must be verified by the HR office before or on the date of hire to be eligible for employment.
