Outside Vendors in the Crossroads

BRIEF BACKGROUND: Suggestions have been submitted that the Crossroads invest in inviting outside food vendors to franchise on campus.

Why aren't there outside food vendors in the Crossroads?

Todd Huchendorf, Food Services General Manager, stated that campus food services is continually evaluating whether or not it is advantageous to allow outside vendors to sell food on campus. Currently, administrators have not seen fit to allow outside vendors to sell in the Crossroads for the following reasons:

  • Not all of the desired outside food vendors choose to franchise in this area.
  • Some of the desired outside food vendors do not have territorial rights to franchise in Rexburg.
  • Due to the nature of the seven week break, many franchises do not see it profitable to operate their franchise over that time.
  • The school currently has a hold on campus construction projects and at this time any proposal to add outside vendors into the Crossroads would be denied.

Will there ever be outside food vendors in the Crossroads?

As mentioned, the school is continually evaluating whether or not it is advantageous to allow outside vendors to sell food on campus. At this time, administration has not seen fit to allow outside vendors on campus. If present circumstances change, the possibility of having nationally branded franchises operated by University Food Services will be reconsidered.
