FHE Gospel/Service Activities

Duration: 20-40 Mins

Group Size: 6-20

Materials Needed: Candy

Set-Up: None

Principal Tie-in: Love

Directions:

  • Pair off or form small teams.
  • The goal of this activity is to be the pair to give away the most candy to strangers.
  • You can only give 1 piece per person.
  • Set a time limit and then meet back up.
  • Winners get candy from the other teams. (Or they can choose to share)

Principal Application: Before the activity have a discussion. When has a stranger done something nice for you? How did that effect you? What can we do to build natural desire to serve others?

Duration: 30-45 Mins

Group Size: 8-20

Materials Needed: Prepared trivia questions.

Set-Up: Prepare trivia.

Principal Tie-in: Love

Directions:

  • Open your trivia game, trivia typically has categories and then questions varying in difficulty with point values assigned to each question.
  • Break into teams of 4 or more.
  • Start answering questions, first person to raise their hand gets the opportunity to answer. Members of the team will alternate who is the designated responder.
  • When a question is wrong give another team a opportunity to answer get the question.
  • Keep track of how many points each team has.
  • The team with the most points wins.

Principal Application: Finish with a discussion. What was something interesting that you learned? What goals can you make to help increase your knowledge of the gospel?

Set-Up: Find an activity on Just-Serve

Principal Tie-in: Shared Responsibility

Directions:

  • Go onto the Just-Serve website
  • Many service opportunities will be listed.
  • Pick one that works well for your group!

Principal Application: Finish with a discussion. Could these organizations function without our help? What would campus look like if we all gave service to others so willingly?

Duration: 30-45 Mins.

Principal Tie-in: Mutual Respect

Directions:

  • Have members of your FHE group volunteer in advance to share things from their missions.
  • Consider having photos to share, foods from the mission, cool experience.
  • Have multiple people prepare brief presentations.

Principal Application: Have a discussion. What did you learn on your mission? How did your mission change your life? What do we feel our “missions” are here.

Duration: 20-40 Mins.

Group Size: 8-20

Materials Needed: Note making materials, writing materials, candy (optional).

Set-Up: None

Principal Tie-in: Love/shared responsibility

Directions:

  • Write inspirational things on note cards.
  • Deliver your cards to people.
  • Leave cards in places that people will find them.
  • Consider giving out candy or finishing with treats.

Principal Application: Finish will a discussion and treats. When has someone uplifted you on are tough day? What are some simple things you can do to help others?

Duration: 45-60 Mins

Group Size: 8-16

Materials Needed: None

Set-Up: Call ahead and make sure there is something your group can do.

Principal Tie-in: Love

Directions:

  • Call and confirm your group and serve.
  • Volunteer at the care center.

Principal Application: Before beginning have a discussion. When has someone visited you when you were lonely? What did that visit mean for you? How can we find more opportunities to find and help people who may feel alone?

Duration: 45-60 Mins

Principal Tie-in: Love

Directions:

  • Contact the following to inquire about service opportunities.
  • Teton Flood Museum.
  • Romance Theatre.
  • Hospital.
  • Pick up trash in a park.
  • Write veterans or missionaries thank you cards.

Principal Application: Finish with a discussion. What would the world look like if everyone acted when they saw a need? Have you ever looked at a piece of trash on campus and kept walking? What does God expect of us when it comes to service?

Duration: 30-60 Mins

Group Size: 8-16

Materials Needed: None

Set-Up: Determine challenges, set rules, set time limit.

Principal Tie-in: Love/Shared Responsibility

Directions:

  • Create a list of small acts of service your group can do.
  • Divide your group into teams.
  • Set a time limit to complete as many service acts as possible.
  • The group to complete the most acts wins.
  • Get pictures doing service to validate it!

Example:

  • Compliment a stranger.
  • Do a random person’s dishes.
  • Pick up a piece of trash.
  • Share a treat with a stranger.
  • Be creative with your challenges!

Principal Application: Finish the activity with a discussion. How did you feel while serving random people? What were their reactions? Has something like this ever happened to you?

Duration: 15-35 Mins

Group Size: 4-20

Materials Needed: Sugar Cubes, Glue, Cardboard

Set-Up: Lay out card board for building space, organize supplies.

Directions:

  • Give each participant supplies to build with, people can work in pairs if they choose.
  • Set an amount of time for building.
  • Share what you made!

Principal Application: Finish with sharing what everyone made. Why is that temple special to them. How can we increase our love for participating at the Temple?

Duration: 15-30 Mins

Group Size: Any Amount

Materials Needed: Card making supplies, writing materials.

Set-Up: Lay out materials on tables.

Principal Tie-in: Mutual Respect/Love

Directions:

  • Create thank-you cards for your professors.
  • Hand them out next time you see them!

Principal Application: Begin activity with a discussion. How do you feel when people show gratitude for things you do? What are some things you wished people thanked you for?
