International Students are eligible to work on-campus up to 20 hours during their on track semester. If students exceed the 20-hour limit, their F-1 visa will be in jeopardy. International students are eligible to work in an approved internship or vice president approved position for up to 40 hours or in a combination of jobs (not to exceed a total of 40 hours a week) where no exception is necessary on their off-track semesters.
International students do not need special permission to work on campus. Once employed on campus however, international students must have an Employment Verification Letter (received in Human Resources during the onboarding process) signed by an International Services Advisor.
The Student Employment Policy was created and is enforced to meet federal and state laws and BYU-Idaho policies and procedures. Exceptions to this policy require the completion of an exception form approved by line management through the vice president and Human Resources.
Employment of Near Relatives
The university seeks to avoid situations where family relationships cause or contribute to perceived or actual favoritism, conflicts of interest, or workplace discord. Exceptions to this policy require the completion of an exception form approved by line management through the vice president and President’s Council.
Travel time is based on guidelines defined in the Fair Labor Standards Act.
