Student Research Fund

 

Purpose of fund

The purpose of the Student Research Fund (SRF) is to expand and enrich students' experience at BYU-Idaho, and to better prepare them for future employment or additional schooling by encouraging and supporting student research and scholarly activity.   

 

Who is eligible?

Fulltime BYU-Idaho students, under the supervision of a faculty member, may apply for SRF money to conduct, create or present their own research or scholarly product.

 

How to apply

To apply for funds, students must submit the following:

 A completed application coversheet

 A formal proposal that includes:

  • The project title
  • A project summary
  • The benefit to the student
  • If travel is involved, a description of who will be traveling together, how they will be traveling, lodging arrangements, and supervision
  • Dates and location of the project
  • A breakdown of the project costs
  • The amount being covered by the department, college or other sources.
  • The amount being requested from the SRF

 

Deadlines

Applications will be accepted year round, and decision meetings will be held by the committee on the second Thursday of January, March, May, July, September, and November.  In order to be considered, applications must be received by 5:00 PM on the Tuesday prior to each decision meeting

Additional Guidelines

  • In general, projects are not to be funded 100% by the SRF.
  • No more than three projects should be supervised by a single faculty member per year.
  • SRF money is not to be used to pay students.  However, students that are working for the university or are participating in the mentor program are eligible.
  • SRF money is not be used to purchase equipment, but may be used to purchase supplies. 
  • A post-activity report should be submitted to Bro. Zenger within 30 days of the project's completion. 
  • The fund is not to be used to support class projects. 
  • Any projects involving student travel must conform to the BYU-Idaho Student Travel Policies found at http://www.byui.edu/Travel/StudentOvernightTravel.htm.
