Past Semester's Contest Entries

Contest 1: Light


Synopsis: Edited and/or unedited photos that areof Light! This contest theme is left open for your interpretation. Any light will do.

 

Deadline: Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the beginning of the Photographics Society meeting: 5:00 p.m. sharp, Spori 137!

We will post all entries on the wall and the paid members present will vote on their favorite for the Society Choice Awards. These awards will be announced at the end of the meeting, make sure you stay the whole meeting because if you win and are not present you wont get the prize money.

 

Then a panel of judges will review the entries over the next week, and the winners will be announced the following Tuesday.

 

Up to $300 of cash and gifts are awarded to the winners

 

Details:
1. All images used must be taken after the first day of the current semester.
2. All entries must be sized to 8x10 and printed on photo paper, preferably at a photo lab.
3. Jpegs (sized to 72 ppi) of all entries must be emailed to photographics@byui.edu before the deadline.
4. In the email include as much information about the picture(s) as possible, and be specific about which pictures are edited and not.

5. Each member may submit up to 3 entries per contest (not three entries in each division i.e  one in edited and two in unedited).



Contest 2: Halloween


Synopsis: Unedited and edited shots* of Halloween. This contest theme is also up for your interpretation. Any photo with a subject portraying any type of Halloween will be accepted (Ghouls, Goblins, Pumpkins, Candy, or your mother-in-law).


Deadline: Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the beginning of the Photographics Society meeting: 5:00 p.m. sharp, Spori 137!

Contest 3: Location


Synopsis: Unedited and edited* shots at a specific location determined by the society leaders. That location is on the corner of main street and south center. On the east corner there is a light post in which you are required to arms length from that pole. If you would like to see an image of the spot click here. There is no limit to what can be there, you can take a candid shot or set up the shot. You imagination is the limit.

*A word about edited and unedited.

 

EDITED: This means that you can manipulate the image to look however you like. You may use more than one image, as long as you have taken the shots in this semester, in the finished product. It can be as Photoshopped as much as you want!

 

UNEDITED: This means that you CAN'T!!! chance anything. No curves, No levels, No hue/saturation, nothing.You may crop only slightly to fit the 8x10 size. For example, do not crop out the center of your shot and enlarge it to an 8x10. The idea of an unedited shot is to see what you can get straight out of your camera!
