Our Purpose

How to Join

Who Can Join

As a Student Chapter of the nationwide American Chemical Society, our purpose is "to stimulate the interest of students... in chemistry as a profession and to build up in [their] minds... during their college years a professional consciousness that will later guide them into organized activity for the advancement of chemistry as a science and a profession."

[Committee on the Establishment and Administration of Chapters of Student Affiliates, September 9, 1936, I&EC,News Edition, 358]

Because we are a student chapter of a national associate there are two levels to which students can "join."

Those who want to join with us in our biweekly ativities can do so free of charge. Please inform us of your interest by contacting one of the officers either via email or in person at our next meeting.

Those who wish to join the national society and receive professional help and other resources can go to this page. Ask an officer or a faculty advisor the the nominator's information.  The cost for year long membership is $24.

Anyone can join us in all our on campus activities.

Those who wish to attend regulalarly should become either free or paid members of the society.

Free membership is ideal for those students who are interested in chemistry in general, but do not plan on pursuing a career in chemistry. (Pre-professionals, chemistry minors, science enthusiasts, etc.)

Paid membership provides access to valuable professional development resources for chemists. These benefits are specifically targeted toward students who will pursue a career in chemistry.

When We Meet

Where We Meet

Why We Meet

Meetings are generally held every other Wednesday. Announcements are posted on our homepage and on the calendar. We also post pink fliers near the classrooms on the top floor of the Romney Building.

Once or twice a semester students will meet to travel to a nearby chemistry lab or recreational area. This type of meeting is often held outside of the regular meeting time to accomodate the host.

Most meetings will take place in the Romney in either Room 299 or 297. These are found on the second floor, above the entrance from the Spori Quad.

Any changes will be announced on the homepage, the calendar or the pink fliers that we post on the walls of the Romney Building.

Life as a student, especially in the sciences, can sometimes feel like a stack of fireworks without any matches. It's big, it's powerful, but it's just not very exciting.

Participating in the Society opens up that proverbial box of matches. Chemistry Society can fire your studies and your career, what ever subject they may be in. We also demonstrate some real explosions from time to time, they're a bit more exciting than our proverbial match box.
