Ultimate Spartan Abs

“ULTIMATE!” The Frisbee was launched, and the Ultimate Frisbee Viking-league championships began.

Last Chance scored the first point in the third minute. The Spartan Abs did not stay behind for long, however. In the fourth minute, they tied up the score.

Most of the game involved back-and-forth scoring. If Last Chance got ahead, Spartan Abs were sure to tie it back up within a few minutes.

“This is a good [ultimate-Frisbee] game; this is how it’s supposed to be,” said Levi Wilson, a senior studying psychology and captain for Last Chance.

Both of these teams went into the game undefeated.

At the half, the score was 5-4, Last Chance’s lead. But that didn’t last for long.

Spartan Abs picked up its game a notch in the second half, and Last Chance, though they fought hard, could not overcome.

The game ended 10-8, Spartan Abs’ favor.

Joe Jannuzzi, a sophomore studying exercise science and the Spartan Abs team captain, said that four of the team members served in the same mission and had planned on coming back and forming an ultimate-Frisbee team.

Originally, the Spartan Abs were in the Thor league, but due to their undefeated record, were bumped up to the Viking league, the most competitive.

Jannuzzi attributed some of the win to “Defensive” Dane Davis, a sophomore studying exercise science, who made a diving catch in the end zone in the second half.

While most of the team maintained their team name was more of a joke, Derek Toone, a freshman studying political science, had to disagree.

“I don’t know about you all,” he said, “but I have those Spartan Abs.” □
