The Hart Fieldhouse was taken by storm on Saturday: a storm of basketball players.
Rec Sports sponsored a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Oct. 13, with 35 men’s and seven women’s teams participating in double-elimination rounds. With four players to a team, games were played on half courts with a time limit of 10 minutes.
“It’s really fun,” said Eric Jensen, a freshman studying accounting. “The atmosphere is great in here; it’s all hot and sweaty.”
“We’ve played four games so far, and we’re having a blast,” said Karlee Karasko, a junior studying accounting.
Melissa Ortolani, a junior studying business management and the manager for the tournament, said the tournament ran well considering the low number of volunteers participating.
“Most of the score keeping and timing was done by the players not playing in the games,” Ortolani said. “We had a great turnout, and everyone was very patient with us.”
“I think it’s well-organized,” Karasko said. “They’ve done a really good job of being on time and on schedule. Sometimes tournaments struggle with that.”
Ortolani encouraged students to participate in events like the tournament, where exercise is a large part of the experience.
“Most of the teams were there from nine in the morning until about two, playing the entire time with short breaks between games,” Ortolani said. “It brings out a lot of students to become more involved with other students. They get to meet new people and have fun doing it.”
