Dangerous flirting
KRISTIE MOSS / Scroll
It is the most illegal form of flirting in Rexburg.

It starts out with one snowball, a death wish for another and a good aim. Once the first one is thrown the war begins.

“It’s just a good way to flirt. Before you start you don’t want to, but once they hit you have to hit them back,” said Natalie Wilson, a junior from Spokane, Wash.

Snowball fights start small but can grow into full combat wars.

“I was in a snowball fight with five other guys. I was really outnumbered. Guys are merciless. It was funny but not fun. But I guess I deserved it because I started it,” said Haley Hazard, a sophomore from Rexburg.

Snowball fights, although just playful, can turn into a misdemeanor felony.

According to Rexburg Ordinance 639 Section II. A., “It shall be unlawful for any person within the City limits of Rexburg, Idaho, to wilfully or carelessly throw any stone, stick, snowball, egg, bomb, missile, or other substance whereby any person is hit, or any window broken or any property injured or destroyed.”

If they are consensual and everyone wants to participate, snowball fights can be fun and lawful.

“You have to have the perfect snow. It has to pack and it can’t be too cold outside because most are improv and you play without gloves,” Wilson said.

However fun it may be, snowball fights may not be the best flirting technique often resulting in frozen fingers and other casualties.
