Mark Jensen who is the founder and chairman of Gleukos developed the drink. Jensen, a marathon runner, was dissatisfied with the products on the market and set out to create a sports drink that would replenish the body better and faster than those currently available. “The drink goes into the bloodstream almost as fast as an I.V. and doesn’t leave you with energy highs. It contains three times more potassium than a typical sports drink, and has 30 percent less sweetness to the typical sports drink,” Jensen said. The drink is available in a 16 ounce bottle and in powder packets that are 1.7 ounces, each of which accounts for two servings. Orange, lemon and punch are the flavors that are currently available. “Right now Gleukos is being used by the Brigham Young University track and cross country programs,” Jensen said. Gleukos is recommended for use before, during and after serious athletic competitions or training. “Your body recovers for up to 15-20 minutes after your done working out and the body sucks things in, glucose helps to rebuild the cells and prevents lactic acid build up on muscles,” Jensen said. |
