With marriages being the highlight of the summer, now is the time to throw the perfect bridal shower. Games, delicious appetizers and gifts make showers worthwhile.
“I liked my bridal shower because there was good food, good friends, good times and good lingerie,” said Katie Larsen, a junior studying history education.
Larsen also said, “I think games that go with the bride’s personality are great, and nothing that would make the bride uncomfortable. And the get-to-know-the-groom games are fun too.”
Allie Hopkins, a senior studying communication, chewed up all the fun at her shower.
“The games were really fun. Every question that I got wrong about my fiancé, like his favorite color or movie, I was given a piece of gum to chew. I was chewing at least 20 pieces of bubble gum,” Hopkins said.
Despite the bridal shower successes, Larsen said she thinks it may have been better if a few things were done a little differently.
“I wish my mom wouldn’t have brought my little sisters,” Larsen said.
If women from the ward, mothers and relatives are coming, it might be a good idea to save the bachelorette gifts and goodies for a separate time. Themed parties are becoming popular for these kinds of situations.
“If you don’t want to be risqué, a themed shower is good…like kitchen stuff, or household things. No one will bring you lingerie at your shower, but I got both,” Hopkins said.
Bridal showers with your closest girlfriends are ideal, but family additions can be nice.
Hopkins said she felt a little out of place with certain guests in attendance.
“I was totally comfortable with everybody there, but the mother-in-law was there too. It was kind of awkward, the whole lingerie thing,” Hopkins said.
Since a wedding is a time to celebrate and have fun, Hopkins suggests, “Invite as many people as possible; you never know who is going to show up. Make sure to have a lot of food, good food. It’s the scandalous awkwardness that makes it fun.”
