Tips to transfer universities

Students sometimes don’t know where to go or what do when it comes to transferring to a different university. Many schools offer resource tools and information to help students in their decisions to transfer.

If BYU-Idaho students don’t know how the transfer process works, they can go to the Career and Academic Advising Center. BYU-I recommends that students first receive their Associate’s degree in general education so they can start studying their majors once admitted to their chosen universities.

Another resource to help students is the Web page of a school. Often the Web page will show requirements for transfer students.

Arizona State University recommends a student have earned a grade point average of a C or better, according to www.asu.edu. Official transcripts have to be sent to ASU before an academic adviser will look at them. A student can also transfer with up to 64 credits from a two-year college. There is no limit to how many credits a student can have when transferring from a four-year university, but every student is required to earn 30 semester hours at ASU to graduate.

Idaho State University has an online application, according to www.isu.edu. If a student has 14 or more credits, they may be admitted to Idaho State University if their GPA exceeds a 2.0. Students will have to submit ACT or SAT scores before the first day of school if they transfer with fewer than 14 credits, unless they are 21 or older. An official high school transcript with graduation date posted must be sent from the students’ high school records office to Idaho State University if the student has earned fewer than 14 credit hours.

To transfer to Utah State University, students need to have a GPA of at least 2.2 and less than 60 credits. Students with 24 credits or fewer need to submit their high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores.

Utah State University also has a day called Aggie Day where anyone can meet with an academic adviser, take a tour of the school, find out about financial aid, and learn ways they can get involved with the school. □
