Imagine a world with no time
|
| Tick-tock. Tick-tock. The seconds are ticking by. Even as you sit by the clock and listen to it tock, you are wasting time away.
But why do we pay attention to the clock, anyway? It’s because our lives are governed by time. Just think about it: There’s a clock on the microwave, oven, cell phone and almost every car radio system. We are even so obsessed with time that we wear it on our wrists. Time is everywhere. Not only the man-made time devices, but the unseen sense of time governs how we age and how we live while we are aging. But here’s a crazy thought for you: what if time devices did not exist? The unseen time would still exist, but there would be no clocks to govern what we did and when we did them. Besides there being mass chaos with no one knowing when to go to class, when to eat and when to meet friends, you could just do whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted. No more deadlines, no more “wasting minutes” because there’s no such thing. Instead of feeling guilty when you just want to sit and watch a TV show, you can sit back and relax because you can do that project when you want to. But then ... how would you know when your favorite show is going to be on? Or try this: You could go to school when you felt like it since there would be no such thing as 7 a.m. classes anymore (wouldn’t that be wonderful). You could do that assignment when you wanted and take that test when you wanted. But then… how would teachers know when to be in their classrooms? And what are you going to do when you discover that you’re 38 and still haven’t taken that one Biology test? How about this, wives and mothers: No longer will you hear “in just a second” or “just give me one more minute” when you ask someone to take out the garbage. There’s no such thing as minutes or seconds! But then … how would you know when the garbage man is coming anyway? While it may appear great to not have time constraints, if we didn’t have time there would be no order in our lives. So get back to trying to get that 20-page paper done by Thursday, as well as those two tests taken and a load of other homework. With so much to do in such a short time, don’t dawdle or waste. After all, the seconds are ticking away. |
