Rexburg Temple construction on schedule

The Rexburg temple construction is on schedule and progress is going well, said Merv Brown, Director of Communications and Media for BYU-Idaho. Brown was unable to specify the dedication date, but said when the time comes nearer, President Gordon B. Hinckley will make an official announcement.

The crews working on the temple have not experienced any major setbacks in its construction. Last month they installed stained glass windows and completed the exterior.

A committee has recently been organized to begin planning the temple’s dedication and open house. Richard S. Smith, a resident of Rexburg, is leading the committee. The committee will soon create several subcommittees, each overseeing a different aspect of the temple dedication.

These aspects include member-missionary work, public affairs, security, tours and others yet to be determined. As more details are finalized, they will be announced to the general public by the administration of the Church.

“A tremendous amount of volunteers will be needed to prepare and help with the open house,” Brown said.

He encouraged students who are interested in helping to contact their stake presidents for more information as the temple dedication approaches.

President Hinckley announced the building of the Rexburg temple on December 12, 2003. Elder John H. Groberg, president of the Idaho Falls Temple, conducted the ground-breaking ceremonies and site dedication on July 30, 2005. □
