On Sept. 30, the Bell family was killed when their home in Lyman, Idaho, was engulfed in flames, but recent investigations show they may have been shot before the fire, according to a press release from the Madison County Office of the Sheriff .

Since that day, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Rexburg Madison County Fire Department have been in an investigation on what led to the fire, according to the press release.

Early evidence showed the fire to be an accident from the furnace and natural gas, but recent developments have shown that to be wrong. Gem State Insurance Company called in investigators from Intermountain Gas Company, who tested the furnace and gas lines and declared them to be in working order, according to the press release.

On Oct. 13, detectives located evidence of possible accelerant, which was further investigated and possible locations of accelerant found. The next day, a revolver was discovered, according to the press release.

On Oct. 25, all three bodies were taken to Boise for a second autopsy to be performed the next day. That autopsy determined there were gunshots in all three victims, according the the Madison County press release.

Investigation in ongoing.
