The Eastern Idaho Low Income Dental Center is holding its second annual Miles for Smiles run on Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. on the east side of Smith Park.
“This is something that students can do that is fun for them and is also beneficial to others,” said Josh Miles, an intern at the dental clinic and an organizer for the run. The run is designed to raise funds for the free clinic that services low-income families who cannot afford dental care.
There is an entry fee of $10 for those who pre-register and $12 for those who register the day of the run.
“All of the proceeds, 100 percent of them, go to the free dental clinic,” said Matt Wold, an organizer of the run.
Not only will this run benefit the low-income families, but the runners themselves will also gain from participating in the event. Each runner will get a free T-shirt and a ticket for the raffle that will be held after the run.
“We have over 20 companies to help sponsor this run, and they have given us a total of over $400 in gift certificates,” Wold said. Johnny Carino’s, Gringo’s, T.G.I.Friday’s and Texas Roadhouse have all donated gift certificates.
Last year, many students who participated left with a feeling of satisfaction for helping the community.
“This is a really good program. The contribution that we receive from the students is so beneficial. The students show Christ-like attributes by doing this,” said Dave Orcutt, an intern helping with the program.
