Some tips for non-restaurant tipping
|

That much is fairly well-known. However, how much to tip for other services aren’t as well-known. How much to tip for beauty services, for example, is perplexing for some. “I didn’t even know you were supposed to tip them until a week ago,” said Lauren Weaver, a freshman from Helena, Mont. Others are a bit more enlightened. “I usually do about ten percent for haircuts and about five percent for manicures and pedicures because they’re so expensive,” said Brittany Spung, a freshman from Ransom, Ill. According to a report titled “How much to tip” by CNN Money Online, a 15 to 20 percent tip is appropriate for barbers and hairdressers, $2 is customary to tip a shampoo person and a manicurist should receive a 15 percent tip. Hairstylist from Reflections Hair and Nail Design in Rexburg and BYU-Idaho student, Natalie Pieksma, a freshman from Nampa, Idaho, says she gets about that. “It’s pretty average that I get about five dollars per customer, but with students it’s about three,” Pieksma said. “They say normal is 15 percent, so I’m happy if I get $5.” CNN Money states that spa services should receive 15 to 20 percent, but if the service is provided by the owner, then no tip in necessary. “I really don’t expect tips in Rexburg, but I usually get paid 10-15 percent. I also work in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and its more of an automatic thing there, but it’s not here,” said Brenda Foster, a massage therapist at B Massage in Rexburg. Another person you may not know how much to tip is your friendly Broulim’s delivery guy. “I don’t [tip the person that delivers my groceries]. I’m a college student,” said Lindsay McKee, a freshman from Salt Lake City, who gets her groceries delivered. However, according to CNN Money, a grocery delivery person should receive ten percent of the bill, but if the delivery was especially difficult the tip should increase to 15 to 20 percent. Broulim’s seems to be an exception. “The most you get is two bucks,” said Spencer Buie, a freshman from Centralia, Wash., and a delivery guy for Broulim’s. “[Customers] pay $3.50 to have them delivered so I feel like they shouldn’t tip me. But I guess it’s nice when you can buy a candy bar at the store here and there.” |
