‘Tis the season of giving gifts

LAUREL CAHOON / Scroll
‘Tis the season for buying Christmas gifts. Buying for siblings, parents, close friends or roommates may be difficult or take some thought. Here are some gift ideas for a start on your Christmas list:

Roommates and Friends

• Buy a bag of candy and write
a message on each piece.
• Buy a mini Christmas tree to
decorate his/her apartment.
• If your roommate is traveling
home for Christmas, buy
him/her a magazine or snacks
for the trip.
• Buy a book that he/she has
been dying to read.
• Buy things in packs, for
example, packs of gum, chapstick
or candy bars. Stuff the gifts in a
Christmas stocking for each friend.
• Buy a mug with a hot chocolate mix
packet and marshmallows inside.
• Make their favorite holiday treats like
fudge, Christmas cookies, cake or
other baked goods.

Siblings

• Depending on the age, buy him/her
something with a BYU-Idaho logo on
it as a souvenir.
• Give him/her a photo album with
pictures of the two of you inside.
• Buy him/her a pocket size Book of
Mormon or a John Bytheway CD.

Parents

• Gift card for a date night
• Movie tickets
• Buy something that they can use for a
hobby they have.
• Call your siblings and have everyone
pitch in for a gift for mom and dad.

Grandparents

• Buy him/her a puzzle or something
that they enjoy doing with friends.
• Let your grandparents know you
appreciate them by calling them or
sending them a card.
• Send him/her pictures of you and
your friends at school.
• If your grandparent enjoys being
outside or gardening, buy him/her
a bird feeder or a little packet of seeds
and a flower pot to grow them in.

General Gift Ideas

• Buy a picture frame and put in a
picture of you and him/her to
personalize it.
• Find/buy a jar and fill it with mixes for
brownies, hot chocolate or trail mix.
• Use your talents to make something
or do something for him/her.
• Gift cards can be an easy option.
• Make him/her a personalized clock
by popping the plastic cover off an
inexpensive clock and replacing the
clock face with cut-out pictures or
artwork the same size as the clock
face. Add numbers around the edge.
• Create a calendar with pictures of
your family on it.
