BYU-Idaho launches new employment database

An employment database created by the newly merged Career Services and Internship Departments of BYU-Idaho aims to provide better services for students searching for jobs or internships. With the merger, the departments created a new system, called Career Navigator, to replace the former Y Careers.

“We are using a new company, new software, a new program, new features, and we thought we should give it a new name as well,” said Kerrie Bailey, an assistant in the Internship and Career Services office.

Career Navigator allows students to search and apply for internships and career positions directly online. Students can also schedule interviews with employers and upload their résumés and cover letters for companies to review online.

“Students are responsible for finding their own internships, just like they are responsible for finding their own jobs. Most students don’t know how to begin that process. Career Navigator will give the students some place to start,” said James Gordon, an internship coordinator.

Students can also use Career Navigator to see where other students have interned and to read comments about the companies and the experience of interning.

In the events section of the Web site, students are able to register for events such as career workshops and visits of employers to campus. All these features and much more are now available to students at the click of a mouse. In the next few months, students can expect to see even more features introduced to the system to aid them in researching jobs and internships.

To log on to Career Navigator, go to www.byui.edu/careerservices and click on “students” and “Career Navigator.”  □
