LDS Philanthropies moves locations

As the number of students at BYU‑Idaho continues to increase, so does the need to increase the number of administrators, but where does the school put the offices? The answer came last summer when President Kim B. Clark told LDS Philanthropies they would need to start looking for a new building to move into.

LDS Philanthropies, located in the Kimball Building next to the Executive Office on the second floor, was officially moved off-campus last week to a new location, past Wal-Mart across the street from Artco in a newly constructed office building next to the Apple Tree Learning Center.

We thought it might be a couple of years before we moved, said Dave Richards, LDS Philanthropies director.

The move came sooner than expected as two administrators, Ric Page and Henry Eyring, were hired last fall and one student station with three students employees was added. To accommodate the change, Richards said their move to a new building will allow more added space for academic administrators.

The Academic Office will stay in the Kimball Building, but in two to three weeks will re-locate to where the LDS Philanthropies office was located.

It is a good fit for the university structure for us to go over there, said Page, academic administrator.

As Academics begin the move to a new office, Dean of Students also prepares to re-locate and fill in the Academic offices.

As change continues to take place at BYU‑I, LDS Philanthropies realizes the move off-campus will have an impact that will take some time adjusting to.

The one thing I will miss the most is coming to an office on hallowed ground, Richards said. This is a special place, and we will need to generate that feeling and spirit in our new office.

Despite moving off-campus, Richards said this move would allow LDS Philanthropies to accommodate those who like to donate to other Church charities.

With so many departmental changes happening in the Kimball building, Page said this would help resolve the space issue in several departments and allow for more growth. □
