New academic calendar brings positive changes to summer semester
|
| A new academic calendar will take effect at Brigham Young UniversityIdaho in 2007, with one of the key features being a full Summer Semester that provides the same class offerings, services, facilities and events available during the Fall and Winter Semesters.
Under the previous academic calendar, classes were offered in two 16-week semesters and two 8-week summer blocks. But starting Jan. 4, 2007, the university’s academic calendar will be organized into three equal 14-week semesters. Faculty members will teach and be available to assist students throughout the summer, and expanded and improved course offerings during Summer Semester will now be full-length. Students can participate in an improved Activities Program during the Summer Semester, and all university facilities and services will be available. “The new academic calendar, especially the revised Summer Semester, will be a huge blessing to BYUIdaho students,” said Roy Huff, associate academic vice president for curriculum. “The university will be able to serve more students and provide them with more options for completing their education. We encourage students to take advantage of what Summer Semester has to offer.” Summer Semester 2007 will begin April 16 and conclude July 18. A break of approximately seven weeks will then follow, before the start of Fall Semester 2007 on September 12. The calendar change is designed to increase the quality of instruction at BYUIdaho, while allowing a greater number of students to attend classes during the summer. |
